Dr. Emiliano Treré

About me

Emiliano Trere

I am a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Professor at the University of Valencia, based in the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences. Since January 2025, I have led the RedON project (Reimagining Digital Activism, Overtourism, and Nomadism on a Burning Planet) and joined the MediaFlows Research Group.. My research addresses the issue of digital activism, algorithmic agency, and resistance from a theoretical standpoint through a two-pronged approach. On one side, it examines these key issues through crucial questions of culture and identity, while on the other side, it aims to develop conceptual frameworks related to media theories of change, such as mediation, media ecologies, and media practice.

Recent Highlights

Since January 2025, I’ve joined the University of Valencia as a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Professor, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Universities. I’m based in the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences, where I lead the RedON project (Reimagining Digital Activism, Overtourism, and Nomadism on a Burning Planet). I’m also a new member of the MediaFlows Research Group.

As part of an international book tour with Tiziano Bonini, I have delivered over 30 talks on Algorithms of Resistance at leading universities, international conferences, and cultural institutions across Europe. These events have engaged diverse audiences, from scholars and students to journalists and activists, and have opened up critical dialogue around platform power, algorithmic resistance, and digital agency. The tour has underscored the book’s global resonance and its contribution to contemporary debates on media, technology, and social justice
