About me
%20.jpeg)
I am a Distinguished ATRAE Researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela, leading the €1 million DataECO project on environmental activism through and against data. I remain connected to MediaFlows at the University of Valencia, where I was a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Professor, and to Cardiff University as Reader in Data Agency and Media Ecologies. My research explores digital activism, algorithmic agency, data justice, and digital disconnection in the Global South, bridging Western and Latin American schools of thought. More recently, I have focused on data justice and digital disconnection in the Global South, positioning myself as a bridge between Western and Latin American schools of thought at the intersection of media, communication, social movements, and critical data studies.
Recent Highlights
Since January 2025, I’ve joined the University of Valencia as a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Professor, awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Universities. I’m based in the Department of Language Theory and Communication Sciences, where I lead the RedON project (Reimagining Digital Activism, Overtourism, and Nomadism on a Burning Planet). I’m also a new member of the MediaFlows Research Group.
As part of an international book tour with Tiziano Bonini, I have delivered over 30 talks on Algorithms of Resistance at leading universities, international conferences, and cultural institutions across Europe. These events have engaged diverse audiences, from scholars and students to journalists and activists, and have opened up critical dialogue around platform power, algorithmic resistance, and digital agency. The tour has underscored the book’s global resonance and its contribution to contemporary debates on media, technology, and social justice
